Niigata Prefecture offers tourist attractions such as Iwamuro Onsen, Togakushi Shrine, and Tsukioka Onsen, tourist events such as Kenshinko Festival, Niigata Festival, and Minamiuonuma Gourmet Marathon, and local delicacies such as rice balls, hegisoba and oyaki.

Niigata Prefecture is long and narrow in shape to the north and west, bordered on one side by the Sea of Japan and on the other by Honshu. Niigata Prefecture is divided into the Joetsu, Chuetsu, Shimoetsu, and Sado regions, as there are many mountains and mountain passes, heavy snowfall on the Sea of Japan side, and different customs and climates in each region. Niigata Prefecture, with its long north-south axis, offers a variety of landscapes depending on the region, and its borders are home to mountains such as the 100 most famous mountains in Japan. Hakkaisan, Echigo-Komagatake, and Nakanodake are known as the "Echigo Sanzan" (Echigo Three Mountains), and the mountain climbing course on Nakanodake is famous as an advanced mountain climbing course for advanced climbers. Hachikaisan and Echigo-Komagatake are famous for their advanced climbing courses, and there is also a climbing route around the rock face of Echigo-Komagatake that attracts many climbers.

Niigata Prefecture has a long coastline facing the Sea of Japan, and beaches are scattered throughout the prefecture, attracting many bathers in summer. Kashiwazaki City's Whale Wave Beach, in particular, has been selected as one of the 100 best beaches in Japan.

Niigata's climate, with short hours of sunlight and heavy snowfall in winter and long hours of sunlight and not much rain in summer, is ideal for rice cultivation and produces Koshihikari rice with a different flavor from other varieties of the same Koshihikari rice, such as Niigata Koshihikari rice.

Niigata Prefecture is also blessed with abundant water and is famous as one of Japan's leading sake-producing regions. Some sake breweries have been in existence for hundreds of years since the Edo period, and events such as sake brewery tours are often held at such breweries. Sake brewery tours and other events that allow visitors to try the brewery's representative brands are a must for sake lovers.

Niigata Prefecture is also dotted with hot springs, and among them Yuzawa and Naeba are the setting for Kawabata Yasunari's novel "Snow Country. Naeba is home to the Fuji Rock Festival (FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL), one of Japan's premier rock festivals, in the summer and a popular ski resort in the winter, and its easy access from the Tokyo metropolitan area attracts many tourists throughout the year.

One of the best parts of traveling is enjoying the local food. Tasting local delicacies such as hegi soba (buckwheat noodles), which use laver as a glue, and sasa dango (bamboo dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves and steamed) will make you want to visit Niigata Prefecture again and again.
