Murakami and Shinbashida are home to tourist attractions such as Tsukioka Onsen, Suwa Shrine, and Shimizuen, tourist events such as the Murakami Grand Festival, Tainai Star Festival, and Rokusai Market, and local delicacies such as Italian food, rice balls, and hegisoba.
Murakami once prospered as a castle town of the Murakami Domain, and even today, the samurai and merchant towns can still be seen in Murakami. Like Murakami, the town of Shinobata, which flourished as the castle town of the Shinobata clan during the Edo period, still retains vestiges of those days throughout the town.
